About me

Hi there. I’m Madeline (they/them). I’m a social scientist with ten years of experience in quantitative and qualitative methods, specializing in social inequality and population health.

I’m also an award-winning writer skilled in translating rigorous research for diverse audiences in both academic and applied settings. My deep expertise in transgender populations enriches my understanding of how marginalization operates across different communities. My published research links the social drivers of health disparities, like stigma or policy, to outcomes like disability and healthcare access. My dissertation spotlights institutional inequality, showing how the different and unequal health profiles of cis and trans people depend on where they live – especially the political, cultural, and economic climate in their state.

In my current role as Project Lead on a team of 5 trainees at Rice University, I create efficient workflows to address complex problems and hone deliverables in response to expert feedback. I have technical expertise in Stata, R, MAXQDA, and Tableau and am equally energized by the detailed work of data cleaning as the unpredictable richness of interviewing participants. I seek a career in applied research because I am committed to knowledge translation and hope to leverage data to create change.
